Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

11th June 2015

On Thursday 28th May 2015, we reported within our website that our Team Leader Garry Rhodes MBE received a very kind hand written letter from Colin Roberts, Treasurer, the Rotary Club of Turton.

Garry had been invited to a charity beneficiaries presentation evening at the Rotary Club of Turton, which took place this evening at 17.15hrs at their club venue of the Last Drop Village, Bromley Cross, Bolton.

Garry representing Bolton MRT, had been invited alongside other charities, all to receive kind and thoughtful supportive donations arising from the fundraising activities of Turton Rotary President Jim Turner during his year of office 2014 – 2015.

Representatives of all the benefitting charities were welcomed by Rotarian President Jim Turner, who then invited all to give a short two minute presentation on their charity (and Garry deserves a medal for ‘almost’ keeping within this timescale!)

Accepting very kind donations were the following charities;

  • Fortalice www.fortalice.co.uk – their representative Gill Smallwood knowing our former Deputy Team Leader Geoff Seddon.
  • Neil Cliff Centre, part of the St Ann’s Hospice Group.
  • Bolton Dementia Support.
  • Lupus UK
  • Marie Curie Greater Manchester
  • Bolton Mountain Rescue Team
  • Lagan’s Foundation www.lagans.org.uk – their representative present tonight, Mr Andrew Grant, knowing team member Diane Blakeley

In total this evening the kind Rotarians of Turton donated the fantastic sum of £6,000 to the seven charities present, raising overall £23,000 a year in support of local and regional charities.

Garry was very pleased to accept a wonderful £500 donation to the team from Turton Rotary Club and thanked the Rotarians for their unstinting support of the team.

Garry presented the Rotarians attending with some metal lapel mountain Rescue supporters badges and some Team Supporter car stickers, with a promise to return soon with a plaque of appreciation from the team to the Rotary Club of Turton.

The whole team membership finds itself again in the position of offering our sincere thanks to the fantastic Rotarians at Turton Rotary Club for their much appreciated and kindly continuing support of the Bolton Mountain Rescue Team.

Since September 2008, the kindly Rotarians of Turton Rotary Club have raised an astonishing £3,050 in eight separate donations to the Bolton Mountain Rescue Team, for which we are truly grateful.
