Organised by Prestwich Athletics Club the team today provided standby rescue cover for this years Prestwich Challenge Sunday event.
A new event regarding our involvement, this is a multi terrain 8 mile challenge event organised by Glenn Martin of Prestwich Athletics Club, starting and finishing at Sedgley Park Rugby Club, Whitefield, which serves to raise a large sum of money for designated local charities.
The course which attracted hundreds of enthusiastic runners, took in the many trails and tracks through the Philips Park, Prestwich Forest Park and Drinkwater Park areas, including steep wooded hillsides, stream runs and crossings and even short tunnel sections!
Twenty two team operational members were on hand, having first met at our Ladybridge Hall Base / HQ at 10.30hrs this morning, in all four of our Land Rover Defender Mountain Rescue Ambulances, our Ford Transit Crewbus / Ambulance and our Incident Control Vehicle.
Other than a female competitor who was requiring a little assistance within a mud pool section, warranting team member Steve O’Hara to wade in to her rescue – then spend time showering in his full team kit to get clean! there were no calls upon the services of the team.
We did however respond to an accident involving a mountain biker within the same area as the event, but unconnected to the event.
We have been asked, and accepted, by the organisers to provide similar cover for their 2016 Prestwich Challenge Sunday event.
