Whilst present at GMFRS Horwich Community Fire Station Open Day this afternoon, four team members attending; Equipment Officer – Medical Mark Scott, Training Officer Alistair Greenough, Mike Marsh and Trainee team member Heath Doran, were mobilised by our Team Leader at 15.34hrs in our Bolton Mobiles 2 and 6 (Land Rover Defender Mountain Rescue Ambulance and Incident Control Vehicle respectively) to an incident in the vicinity of the High Bullough Reservoir area of Anglezarke.

A young teenage girl in a DoE Bronze Award group had stumbled sustaining a suspected ankle injury.

Our Team Leader Garry Rhodes MBE had been contacted at 15.29hrs by NWAS EOC Broughton, aware the Bolton MRT was nearby at GMFRS Horwich Community Fire Station Open Day, to request a team response to this local incident, to assist an NWAS Emergency Ambulance crew already mobilising.

Our colleagues at Bowland Pennine MRT who cover this incident location within their primary operational area, were also mobilised, via SARCALL at 15.35hrs.

Our Team Leader liaised with NWAS EOC Broughton, suggesting an initial RVP in the vicinity of Manor House Farm on Moor Road, Angelzarke.

By 15.46hrs our Land Rover ‘Bolton Mobile 2’ twelve minutes after going mobile, arrived at Manor House, meeting at 15.50hrs the responding NWAS Emergency Ambulance, and our Incident Control Vehicle.

Initial responding members of BPMRT also started arriving, and it was established the casualty could be better accessed directly from the Anglezarke Reservoir shore side track.

Bolton MRT Mike Marsh had already liaised with United Utilities Ranger Andy Ryding (a former Bolton MRT long serving member) and unlocking the access gate to this track, our Land Rover Ambulance was able to drive directly and quickly straight to the casualty site, thereby avoiding the need for a stretcher evacuation.

With the teenage girls ankle splinted in a vacuum splint, and given Entonox to ease her pain, she was placed directly in our Land Rover, and driven back along the track to the waiting NWAS Emergency Ambulance which had relocated to the Anglezarke main car park area.

By 16.25hrs she was in the NWAS Ambulance, which then transported her to Royal Bolton Hospital for further treatment.

• NWAS (Cumbria and Lancashire Area); EOC Broughton Air Desk despatcher, one Emergency Ambulance, two crew members.
• Bolton Mountain Rescue Team; Four team members on scene plus our Team Leader who was liaising with NWAS and BPMRT. One Land Rover Defender Mountain Rescue Ambulance, radio callsign ‘Bolton Mobile 2,’ and our Incident Control Vehicle, radio callsign ‘Bolton Mobile 6.’
• Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team; Twelve team members reported to have mobilised to this incident, some of whom were stood down responding.
