Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

21st June 2015

Whilst present providing standby rescue cover for the Horwich Festival of Racing 2015 all day event today in Horwich town centre, some of our twenty team members present dealt with five separate incidents all requiring the teams services;

  1. At 10.56hrs the team was requested by NWAS (Manchester) Parkway EOC to attend an emergency within the ‘road closed’ area of Horwich town centre, in advance of a NWAS Emergency Ambulance accessing the emergency call due to street races taking place.
    Training Officer Alistair Greenough and our Team Leader Garry Rhodes MBE attended on foot from our control point, meeting the responding NWAS crew and a social care worker on scene at a residential property.
    Garry then stayed with the NWAS crew, assisting and to link in with race control to allow the Ambulance safe egress back through the road closures.

    This involvement concluded at 12.00hrs.

  2. At 12.10hrs, at our Incident Control Vehicle, team members Mike Marsh and Training Officer Alistair Greenough dealt with a male competitor in the orienteering event, who had sustained a large head laceration. His wound was dressed with advice to attend hospital for further treatment.This involvement concluded at 12.25hrs.
  3. An adult male rider presented himself at our Incident Control Vehicle in the afternoon, after falling during one of the road cycle events (then carrying on to complete another 15x laps) and sustaining a large wound to his leg.
    His wound was cleaned and dressed by team members Mike Marsh and Training Officer Alistair Greenough, with advice given.
  4. An eight year old boy cyclist presented himself at our Incident Control Vehicle in the company of his mother, requiring knee grazes from a fall being treated.
  5. At our Incident Control Vehicle, we were asked to check over a 9 year old boy who had fallen on to the handlebars of his scooter, resulting in chest pain. He was checked by our Training Officer Alistair Greenough, who in full time employment is an Accident and Emergency Nurse
