This evening saw the Bolton MRT providing standby rescue cover for a new fell race in the teams area, namely the Royal Rumble.
This new race was organised by Richard Taylor, a member of Blackburn Harriers, with assistance from other local Fell Running Clubs, under the banner of ‘English Hill Racers.’
The 5 mile race took in a route starting in Roddlesworth Plantations, crossing Tockholes Road, then up on to Darwen Moor, around the lower slopes of Darwen Tower, round to Aggies Staircase, and on to the finish at Roddlesworth.
Cloudy skies and wet moorland conditions underfoot greeted the race start at 19.00hrs, with thirty nine runners taking part.
By circa 20.00hrs all runners were safely around the course, as the rain started – which at least saw off the midges!
Twenty three team operational members were on hand, in five team vehicles around the race route, and at various points around the course, alongside race marshals.
Our involvement was co ordinated from within our Incident Control Vehicle, based at Roddlesworth.
At the race conclusion we were presented with a kind £50.00 cash donation to support the work of Bolton Mountain Rescue Team.
