Not previously reported on our website was a visit at the invitation of Flt. Lt. Andy Lees of 1036 (Bury Sqdn.) Air Training Cadets on Friday evening, 18th November 2011 to 1036 (Bury Sqdn.) at the Drill Hall in Bury.

There follows an account of our visit by long serving and very experienced team Call Out list member Mark Parry.

“Taking BM2, we were given space in the garage at the drill hall, and after the obligatory R.A.F. tea, we commenced by breaking the Squadron into 2 groups.

After the initial walk around of the vehicle and a talk about the role and responsibilities of Mountain Rescue, we undertook a demonstration of the stretchers and first aid equipment in use.

As always the highlight proved to be the practical exercise of carrying one of their own on the stretcher and demonstrating what happens if a casualty is ill during a carry. After much of the same with the second group we moved onto a large kit demo with just about everything being looked into and demonstrated. We talked about the effects of Hypothermia to the methods of rope rescue and how we, as volunteers manage to juggle our work, home life and the team.

The questions were thick and fast as we went along. Interest in our full length vacuum stretcher was noticeable even being tried by Flight Lieutenant Elizabeth Thomas (Officer Commanding) 1036 Bury Squadron.
