Our weekly training night this evening featured a presentation by GMFRS Crew Commander Mike Dewar, a very experienced FSI / USAR Dog Handler with GMFRS. (Who was accompanied for the presentation to the team by his son Daniel)
Mike operates two dogs, Fire Urban Search and Rescue Dog Echo, a veteran of numerous operations here and abroad, and Fire Scene Investigation Dog Lucy, an equally experienced dog.
Mike outlined to the thirty six Team Call Out list members present at our Ladybridge Hall Base / HQ his work as a GMFRS Dog Handler, primarily his work as a USAR Dog Handler with Search Dog Echo, concentrating on their work in the Haiti Earthquake and ’domestic’ incidents on a more local basis, such as the recent ’Irlam Gas Blast’ incident.
Mike has worked with Echo on mountain rescue operations in our team area and with our colleagues in Bowland Pennine MRT and is very familiar to us from recent ’Emergency Services Open Days’ / GMFRS Fire Station Open Days and similar.
At the conclusion of this excellent presentation Mike was warmly thanked by all the team members present.
