While covering a fell race today the team was initially contacted by a member of the public out walking informing us that his companion had fallen injuring his leg and was unable to walk.
The walkers had already contacted the North West Ambulance Service who then paged the team via Sarcall at 14:03. The three vehicles on the safety cover made their way to the casualty in order to make a timely response however 2 team members on foot located the casualty who was being assisted by 2 adult instructors from Greater Manchester Army Cadet Force who were supervising a DofE group kindly stopped and offered assistance by using a bivi bag and spare warm clothing.
The team members splinted the injury, administered pain relief and due to the remote location requested air ambulance, however following discussion with the land crew who had arrived and the air crew the decision was made to transport by road therefore the team carried the casualty to the awaiting NWAS vehicle for onward travel to hospital.
The team was ably assisted by United Utilities ranger and former team member Andy Ryding who provided access to the casualty and assisted with preparing the helicopter landing site.
On completion of the incident and returning to the fell race Bolton Mobile 3 crew was approached by a member of the public and his son who inquired as to what the team had been doing and gave a very generous donation to the team of £20.00 thanking us for what we did. In return for this donation the gentleman’s son was given a drive in the team vehicle which he thoroughly enjoyed.
