Whilst providing Standby Rescue Cover for the day long Horwich Festival of Racing, (See below report) which included thirty three team members in attendance, the team responded to an accident during the last race of the day, the Bolton Council Cycle Challenge Race.
A forty one year old male competitor at circa 14.59hrs collided with safety fencing at the junction of Winter Hey Lane and Chorley New Road, suffering a suspected dislocated right shoulder.
Our BM4 Land Rover five strong crew, present at this exact location, were able to render immediate care, with our Team Doctor, Clare Whitney and her husband, a Naval Student Paramedic, also attending.
Team members splinted the mans injury, whilst also administering pain killing gas and drugs.
An NWAS (Manchester) Emergency Ambulance was called to the scene by our Control staff, arriving at 15.28hrs, which then took the injured competitor to Royal Bolton Hospital.
In total this incident directly involved nine team members from the thirty three present.
