Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

20th August 2016

At 03:11 this morning we were contacted by Greater Manchester Police to assist with an urgent search for a missing 23 year old man in the Haigh Hall Country Park area of Wigan. Police had concerns for this mans welfare.

IMG_3811Due to the potentially large search area, the team requested assistance from our neighbouring teams, Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team and Cheshire Search and Rescue Team, to back up the 18 personnel who had responded from Bolton Mountain Rescue.

Before the additional resources reached Haigh Hall, thankfully the man was located by a police officer in woodland near to the Hall around 6:30. Team members went to the immediate aid of the man, including treating the early effects of hypothermia.

IMG_3818The man was carried on one of our Alphin stretchers to a waiting ambulance from the North West Ambulance Service, then transferred to Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan for treatment to his injuries.

We would like to thank our colleagues at Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue, who had 6 people responding to assist us, including Phil O’Brien who attended this incident and assisted in our control vehicle, and Cheshire Search and Rescue who had 12 people responding to assist in this search.

We would like to wish the man a speedy recovery from his injuries.
