This evening saw the Bolton MRT providing standby rescue cover for a fell race in the team’s area, namely the Royal Rumble.
The race which is now in its second year is organised by Richard Taylor, a member of Blackburn Harriers, with assistance from other local Fell Running Clubs, under the banner of ‘English Hill Racers.’
The 5 mile race took in a route starting at 18:45 in the Roddlesworth Plantations, crossing Tockholes Road, then up on to Darwen Moor, around the lower slopes of Darwen Tower, round to Aggies Staircase, and on to the finish at Roddlesworth.
Fantastic summer conditions greeted the 32 runners this evening – with a gentle breeze which kept the midges away!
By 20.00hrs all runners were safely around the course.
18 team members were on hand, in three team vehicles around the race route, and at various points around the course, alongside race marshals.
Our involvement was coordinated from within our Incident Control Vehicle, based at Roddlesworth.
We look forward to supporting this event again in the future.
