Today team member Mark Scott and trainee team member Michael Stevenson attended the Haigh, Aspull and Blackrod Annual Ploughing Competition which took place at Brinsop Hall Farm,Westhoughton. They travelled in one of the team’s Landrover ambulances.
Once again we are delighted to report that Bolton Mountain Rescue Team are being supported through the proceeds of the event, as they were last year (when an amazing sum in excess of £600 was raised) and in the two years previous to that.
The tractors were all delightful vintage machines and the expert farmers driving them took part in a variety of categories of competition. The day was very enjoyable and the weather remained kind. As well as the ploughing there was tea, coffee and hot pot available, and a raffle with a good selection of prizes. Mark walked away with a large number of Bramley Apples as a raffle prize and so now he has to find a recipe for apple pie!
Back in September 2010 the team was called to search Brinsop Hall Farm for Mr Charles Gordon Gregory a farmer of 83 years who was inexplicably missing. Very sadly he was found deceased by the team as described in our website ‘News’ item dated Friday 24th September 2010, Incident 80.
At the end of the event, when all the raffle prizes and been won and all the trophies awarded, The Guest of Honour, Blackrod Town Mayor Councillor Ann Cunliffe, gave a well-received speech and BMRT’s Mark Scott then thanked everybody present wholeheartedly for their continued support of the Team and its work. Can we now, further to this, thank everyone involved in this wonderful event on behalf of the whole of the team’s membership.
