As reported in these pages on 10th May 2016, 25th Warrington East (St Wilfrid’s Grappenhall) Scout Troop has chosen Bolton Mountain Rescue Team to support as their Christmas Charity for 2016. This follows us being chosen in 2008 and 2011, with a total of over £1,250 being raised by the Scouts on those occasions.
Last Friday, 14th October, organised by their Group Scout Leader, Denis Ward, thirty-three Grappenhall Scouts and eight Leaders travelled to our HQ to learn about our work and were greeted by seven of our operational team members. The Scouts were scheduled to make a sponsored visit to an assault course in North Yorkshire at the end of this month, but due to unforeseen circumstances, the event has had to be cancelled. As an alternative fundraising activity, the Scouts will be walking a section of the Trans Pennine Trail from Grappenhall British Legion to Lymm Rangers’ Cabin on Remembrance Sunday, 13th November 2016, and will be sponsored to raise funds for Bolton Mountain Rescue Team – but the walk will be with a twist – they will all be blindfolded (with adult guides keeping an eye on them – excuse the pun!).
We would like to thank St Wilfrid’s Grappenhall Scouts for supporting us in this way and wish them well – and safe – on their sponsored walk. Some of our members will be visiting their Troop Night in December to learn how they got on and thank them personally for their efforts.
