Today many serving and ex fire fighters gathered to celebrate the opening of Bolton North Fire Station 50 years ago. Only a few there could remember the opening but that didn’t stop the rest of us meeting up with old friends and having a piece of cake (bringing a cake was the entry requirement!
Bolton Mountain Rescue Teams link with this event is that Nigel Booth (Operational Team Member of BMRT) until recently worked at Bolton North and one our operational vehicles is based at Bolton North. Representing the team on the day was Matthew Hailwood, Paul Copley and Nigel Booth.

A CELEBRATION took place yesterday (Thursday, March 30) which looked back on the work and history of Bolton North Community Fire Station since it began serving and protecting the community of Bolton in 1967.Current and ex staff members from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) came together at the station to celebrate an outstanding 50 years of service.Retired members of staff who previously worked at the Crompton Way station reunited, along with the current firefighters who serve the community of Bolton today.Brian Thomas, a member of the original crew at Bolton North, said: “It’s fantastic that everyone has reunited here today to celebrate, with some people travelling a long way.“It has been an absolutely brilliant day and it is lovely to see all the old photos and memorabilia.Green Watch firefighter, Mick Massey, organised the event, allowing attendees to look back on history by sharing memorabilia and stories from over the 50 years, including the good and the difficult times.“It’s the people who have worked at Bolton Central Community Fire Station that have made the past 50 years so amazing.“They have made the memories, served the community and done fantastic work.”
