Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

8th May 2010

Today the team provided full standby rescue cover for the ever popular annual Belmont Fell Races, all of which take place on and around Winter Hill, Belmont. Commencing at 12.30hrs, 34x young fell runners took part in the mass start for the Under 12’s, Under 14’s and Under 16’s races, from Belmont Village up on to the flanks of Winter Hill and back down again. The Senior event took place at 13.15hrs, attracting 119 runners, over a 4.5 mile course.

Although the day was dry and sunny, there was a bitter wind blowing throughout the events, with hill temperatures hovering around 8c (plus wind chill)

In total 28x team members attended, including all four of our Mountain Rescue Land Rover Ambulances, our Minibus and our Control Trailer, alongside Lancashire Constabulary who provided the essential temporary road closures.

Thankfully all the races took place safely without any need on our services. The team welcomes the opportunity to support the Belmont Fell Races and will be present for the 2011 events.
