Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

3rd April 2010

The annual Rivington Pike Fell Race, held every Easter Saturday for over 100 years, took place today in the April sunshine.

As usual, excellent organisation by Horwich RMI Harriers and Athletics Club meant the event was well attended by an enthusiastic field of runners from all areas of the UK.

The team were in attendance for safety cover and 13 team members manned our four Landrover Ambulance vehicles, positioned along the course.

The races commenced at 13.00hrs with the under 12’s race, followed immediately by the under 14/16’s category. The senior category commenced at 15.00hrs involving 211 runners. It was very humbling to see Ron Hill – yes the Ron Hill – taking part and completing the course.

Apart from a few scuffed knees due to a very muddy track descending from Georges Lane, the event passed without any incidents.
