Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

10th May 2009

This morning Team Members Andy Ryding, Peter Heeley and Paul Brain, together with three of the new probationary members travelled to Horrocks Fold to meet David Cook, Governor of Belmont Primary School, and his son Lucas.

Each year the school complete a charity sponsored walk, with the older children and adults taking a challenging route across Winter Hill.

The route descends to Horrocks Fold where there is a road section back to Belmont Village. In order to break up this section, Andy Ryding (also the teams Training Officer) suggested there could be other routes which cut out part of the road section.

Whilst there are many footpaths heading into the Dunscar Valley, many of these paths are not suitable for taking large groups where navigation skills may be required. Instead Andy suggested keeping the road section in until Dingle Resevoir, before dropping into Longworth Clough, which has the additional bonus of keeping the pub en route in for the parents.

When walking out of the valley the walkers bumped in to Chris Hoddle, headteacher of Belmont Primary, who asked how we were getting on.

The sponsored walk takes place on 28th June this year, with all funds raised by the school being kindly donated to the team.

This is the first time the school have supported the team in this way and the team is grateful for such support (Its fingers crossed for nice sunny weather for this year).

The team will be out and about on the day to provide safety cover and keep a watchful eye on all the walkers.
