Today the team provided full standby rescue cover for the ever popular annual Belmont Fell Races, all of which take place on and around Winter Hill, Belmont.
Commencing at 12.30hrs, 28x young fell runners took part in the mass start for the Under 12s, 14 and 16s races, from Belmont Village up on to the flanks of Winter Hill and back down again. The Senior event took place at 13.15hrs, attracting 156 runners, over a 4.5 mile course.
Although the rain stayed off until the end of the races, there was a bitter wind blowing throughout the events, or have we just got use to this years very warm April ?, which made for cold temperatures.
In total 27x team members attended, including all four of our Mountain Rescue Land Rover Ambulances and our Control Trailer, alongside Lancashire Constabulary who provided the essential temporary road closures.
Thankfully all the races took place safely without any need on our services.
The team welcomes the opportunity to support the Belmont Fell Races and will be present for the 2010 events.
