Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

11th April 2009

Held annually for over 100 years, the Easter Saturday Rivington Pike Fell Race takes a short but very gruelling route from Horwich directly up to the summit of Rivington Pike and then a direct and fast, return straight downhill.

This event organised by Horwich RMI Harriers and Athletics Club attracts a strong field of runners, both nationally and at a local level.

Today the event was greeted by a blue skies and warm spring sunshine.

The Junior events commencing at 13.00hrs included the under 12s catagory, and 9x in the under 14s/16s catagories. The Senior event which started at 15.00hrs saw 234 runners taking part.

In total 14 team members provided standby rescue cover for this event, with members postioned throughout the course, and our four Landrover Mountain Rescue Ambulances positioned strategically along the course.

Thankfully the event passed with no need for our services.

We would like to express our thanks to race organiser and official Colin Jones who donated to the team a large box of damp start lubricant and maintenance fluid(very useful for the conditions our Landrovers operate in) and also promised as usual a donation for our attendance at the event.
