Held annually for over 100 years, the Easter Saturday Rivington Pike Fell Race takes a short but very gruelling route from Horwich directly up to the summit of Rivington Pike and then a direct and fast, return straight downhill.
This event organised by Horwich RMI Harriers and Athletics Club attracts a strong field of runners, both nationally and at a local level.
Today the event was greeted by a very cold chilling wind, with the odd snow shower thrown in for good measure !
The Junior events commencing at 13.00hrs attracted 15x in the under 12s catagory, and 38x in the under 14s/16s catagories. The Senior event which started at 15.00hrs saw 296 runners taking part.
In total 27 team members provided standby rescue cover for this event, with members postioned throughout the course, and our four Landrover Mountain Rescue Ambulances positioned strategically along the course.
Thankfully the event passed with no need for our services.
The earlier part of this event saw the team split, with part of the membership involved in Incident 44, which thankfully was resolved in time to allow those team members involved to join in the cover for this Fell Race
