Today at the kind invitation of the Darwen Gala Committee, the team attended as we do every year, this years 48th Darwen Town Gala, principally to provide standby rescue cover for the Darwen Gala / Darwen Tower Fell Races.
The Gala itself took place on the public fields adjacent to Bold Venture Park where a huge variety of local charities, groups and organisations set up their displays including a climbing wall, fairground rides and food stalls.
Attractions included a Pipe Band, the Gala Parade and Land Rover experience rides to Darwen (Jubilee) Tower provided by the Red Rose Land Rover Club Limited.
The Fell Race organised by Darwen Dashers Running Club, commenced at 14.30hrs, taking in a 6.3km moorland course, with 283 metres of ascent, covering a route up to Darwen Tower, across to the top of ‘Aggies Staircase,’ and returning via Bold Venture Park to the Gala Showground.
Sixty three competitors took place in the Fell Race today, all successfully completing the course.
Twenty three of our Call Out list membership attended to cover todays event, providing standby rescue cover, in all four of our Land Rover Mountain Rescue Ambulances and our Ford Transit Crewbus / Ambulance, with our participation being co-ordinated from our Incident Control Vehicle.
Thankfully our services were not required with todays race passing off without incident.
The team is grateful for the very kind donation of £50.00 received from the Darwen Gala Committee today, who have supported the Bolton Mountain Rescue Team for a great many years now.
