This evening we welcomed a visit to our Ladybridge Hall base by the members of The Rotary Club of Astley.
The large number of visitors from Astley Rotary packed into our base to be given an introduction on the workings of the team by our Team Leader Garry Rhodes, who then gave them a short tour of our base.
Following a question and answer session, the Rotarians were then treated to a display and talk on the search and rescue equipment carried on our BM2 Landrover Ambulance vehicle.
Then came the big surprise for the four team members present, Garry Rhodes, Andy Kench, Becky Roberts and Peter Heeley, when the President of The Rotary Club of Astley, Bob Hamilton, asked if he could make a presentation to the team.
Accepting the presentation, our Team Leader Garry Rhodes was absolutely astounded to be handed a cheque for £2,500.00 from The Rotary Club of Astley.
It turns out that this huge sum of money was raised at a Charity Golf Match held by the Rotarians on Friday 27th July, and although we were aware they were holding this match to raise some money for us we had no idea whatsoever it would result in such a large and gratefully accepted sum.
Garry gave an impromptu reply of thanks for this truly wonderful £2,500.00 extremely kind donation, which was followed by a very kind reply from The Rotary Club of Astley President Bob Hamilton, thanking the team for the work it does within the local community, not just for hillwalkers and other users of the local moorlands but also in the lowland search role for missing children and adults.
He also specifically mentioned with thanks, the work we do in support of the North West Ambulance Service (Greater Manchester Area) when they call on our services in busy periods to help them with general 999 calls.
The Rotarians’ visit ended with a final presentation to the team of a Rotary Club of Astley pennant, which now has pride of place on the walls of our base.
The team would like to thank all the Astley Rotarians for their kindness in raising such a large sum of money for the team, and special thanks to their Vocational Chairman David Rothwell for arranging their visit in the first place.
By all accounts the Rotarians had a very interesting evening as our guests and all thanked the four team members present as representatives of the rest of the team, for the good work the team regularly carries out.
