At 17:16 the team was paged to respond to an LAS call to a walker with a reported leg injury within the Roddlesworth woodland trail at Tockholes. As some team members were already at base, two vehicles made an immediate response.

The 35 year old man involved had been out walking with his children & partner, when he slipped in the stream bed of the steep wooded gorge section of the woodland trail, sustaining a very serious and very painful ankle injury.

Along with a responding LAS ambulance crew from Darwen ambulance station, and Helimed 08, which had landed nearby in fields edging the woodland, team members jointly carried out cas care and administered Entonox pain relief and drugs.

The efforts of those on scene were greatly assisted by an orthopaedic consultant who had heard of the incident whilst in a nearby public house and had gone to assist. At least one other member of the public also initially assisted.

The casualty is carried a few hundred metres to the waiting helicopter.

The man involved was of substantial build and all of the 20 team members who responded were required for the stretcher carry out of the woodlands to the waiting air ambulance, which then airlifted him direct to Royal Blackburn Hospital.
