This fine, sunny June Sunday saw yet again Horwich town centre totally transformed into a road running and road cycling event circuit. This annual event gaining more success each year, was this year sponsored by ASDA, with individual races sponsored by local businesses.
The races included National Championships and open running road races, senior & junior cycling races, and a unique handicap Penny Farthing Challenge, during which a Penny Farthing was matched against junior and senior road runners and junior and senior cyclists (this year the Penny Farthing rider won this event).
35 team members were involved in providing standby safety cover for this event and spectator safety (all our team vehicles were involved alongside specially equipped team member’s vehicles).
A team control was setup alongside race event control, with the team’s involvement commencing at 08:45 in Horwich, meaning we all had to be at our base at 08:15.
The team’s involvement in this event finished at 17:30, fortunately no incidents occured to warrant our attention.
The team welcomes the annual opportunity to take part in this prestigious local event, organised by Horwich RMI Harriers & Athletics Club, which attracts road runners and road cyclists from all over the United Kingdom, giving us an opportunity to support our local community and the townspeople of Horwich.
