Readers of our website will know how extremely busy we all are with the affairs of the team, especially so this year with 52 calls on the team to date for assistance.
All our members remain at heart dedicated hill walkers, climbers and outdoors people with March seeing team members particularly busy out and about in the uplands.
At the beginning of March, a large number of team members were present in the Cairngorm Mountains for the team’s annual winter social mountaineering trip, following which team member, rock climber and mountaineer, Ann Shaw, then spent a week on Ben Nevis winter mountaineering based out of the the CIC hut.
The Easter period saw many members taking advantage of the holiday break with members mountaineering in the Lake District, North Wales, and four members in North West Scotland (Sutherland).
For our Deputy Team Leader, Geoff Seddon, who was kayaking around the Summer
Isles off the North West Scottish coast, his Easter week break turned into a busman’s holiday when coastguards requested his kayak group join in the sea search for a man missing from a RIB. Joined by lifeboats and HMCG Helicopter. The man was found in the sea, alive, and airlifted to hospital. Geoff’s kayak group received a radio broadcast, “Thanks for your valuable assistance” call from Stornoway coastguard.
Team members over late Spring and Summer are scheduled in two seperate groups to be heading for a week’s mountaineering on Skye, and mountain biking/Via Ferrata routes in the Italian Dolomites (sadly for all the downhill Skiiers in the team, the season has now ended, with members having skiied this year in Austria, Romania, France, and Andorra).
