Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

5th March 2005

In what we believe to have been a unique locally-based training event involving different types of search dog, our search dog handler Dave Marsh with his search dog Chi journeyed to a demolished mill complex in Kearsley today to meet up with a GMP dog handler and GMFRS fire officer Mike Dewar (also a member of the Fire Service International Rescue Unit) and his urban search & rescue dog to come together to train all three dogs and learn from each other in their respective search dog disciplines. Joined by exercise bodies from GMFRS Broughton Fire Station, and our own Fred Taylor, a number of search exercises were set up inside buildings, demolished structures, and open ground, the three dog handlers all benefitting from this unique multi-agency search dog approach. It is likely, due to the success of this afternoon that more exercises of a similar nature will be arranged.
