Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

16th February 2003

This Sunday we provided standby rescue cover for our first event of 2003, the Horwich RMI Harriers and Athletic club organised Winter Hill Fell Race. Held over a gruelling 11 mile long course, involving 2700 feet of ascent, this years event attracted 131 competitors, including Bolton team member Pete Ellwood. 25 Team members attended, on a day which gave the runners a hard, frosty underfoot course, in cold conditions, which no doubt contributed to 7 runners retiring at various points around the course, other than transporting some retirees back to the finish in team vehicles, our day was otherwise uneventful.

Jonathon Holt & Al Livesey both wrapped up warm on their Winter Hill fell race check point.

Runner number 70, looking as if he’s enjoying the race in the freezing conditions.
