Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

11th May 2013

Today the team provided full standby rescue cover for the ever popular annual Belmont Fell Races, all of which take place on and around Winter Hill, Belmont.
Commencing at 12.30hrs, 17x young fell runners took part in the mass start for the Under 12’s, Under 14’s and Under 16’s races, from Belmont Village up on to the flanks of Winter Hill and back down again.

The Senior event took place at 13.15hrs, attracting 168x runners, over a 4.5 mile very steep uphill and then downhill course.

Weather conditions today started with temperatures hovering around a very unseasonal 7 degreec with very heavy rain clearing for the Juniors Fell races and the Senior event.

In total 29 Team operational members attended today alongside all four of our Land Rover Mountain Rescue Ambulance Vehicles, our Team Minibus and our Control Trailer.

Team members were on hand at all the race checkpoints, as well as providing assistance with road marshalling duties alongside PCSOs from Darwen.
Thankfully all the races passed off without incident with no calls on the teams services.

The team is happy to support this established long running village based Fell Race event, and will be on hand as ever to support the 2014 Belmont Fell Races.
