Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

15th October 2013

Whilst providing standby rescue cover for the annual Aggies Staircase Fell Race in very wet conditions, on Thursday evening, 21st June 2012, we were alerted at 19.50hrs to an accident to a competitor taking part in the event.

Roger Johnson, an experienced male competitor, from Lostock Hall, Preston, had stumbled at the head of Stepback Brook,where the track descends in to the valley from Darwen Moor, sustaining a painful non weight bearing ankle injury.
The next day we received an email from Roger Johnson stating the following;

“I was the casualty on the Aggies Staircase Fell race.

My ankle was X-rayed at Blackburn Hospital. I was fast-tracked as the Triage nurse noticed discolouring on my toes, even though the pulse was strong. The X-Ray showed no breaks, thankfully.

I have major soft tissue damage and am on crutches.

Please convey my thanks to all who attended me on the moor in such bad weather.
Roger Johnson.”

Today we are pleased to announce the receipt of a kind donation from Roger’s running club, the Red Rose Road Runners, in relation to this accident some 16 months ago.

In a letter to our Team Leader Garry Rhodes MBE accompanying this kind £50.00 donation, John Rogerson, Membership Secretary for Red Rose Road Runners stated;

“Dear Mr Rhodes.
It seems that there has been an oversight and the club has not made a donation in thanks for the rescue of one of our runners who fell during the Aggies Staircase race on a very wet 21st June 2012.”

“Please accept our thanks for helping our member and please accept this £50.00 donation from the club.
Yours sincerely,
John Rogerson,
Membership Secretary for Red Rose Road Runners.”

The whole team membership extends its thanks to all at Red Rose Road Runners for this very kind donation.
