Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

1st May 2013

This evening very long serving team ‘Reserve Call Out list’ member Diane Blakeley and long serving Support Group member Iain Clarkson were the guests of Dunscar Golf Club Captain David Sweeney (Of Bank Top Brewery fame) and Lady Captain Sue Howard at a very special presentation evening.

Held at Dunscar Golf Club, this event was held in order to make charitable donations arising from the Captain and Lady Captain supported Charities for 2012 – 2013.

Dunscar Golf Club Captain David Sweeney had very kindly chosen Bolton Mountain Rescue Team as ‘his’ charity, with Dunscar Golf Club Lady Captain Sue Howard having chosen the Meningitis Trust as ‘her’ Charity.

An account of the evening follows from Diane Blakeley:

“Tonight Iain and I had the pleasure of attending a very special evening at Dunscar Golf Club. Each year the Golf Club Captain and The Golf Club Lady Captain choose a charity who they would each like to raise money for during their year as Captain.”

“Dunscar Golf Club Captain for 2012 Dave Sweeney decided that his charity would be Bolton Mountain Rescue Team. His reasons for this wonderful support are due to friends who are involved with a rescue team in the Lakes and he had heard that Mountain Rescue relied largely on donations. Around this same time we were involved in supporting the North West Ambulance Service on two occasions to evacuate people from local golf courses. The first was at Dunscar Golf Course and the second at Harwood Golf Course. On hearing of these two nearby rescues Dave very thoughtfully decided he would like to support us and raise our profile amongst golf club members.”

“Dave spoke about how the money had been raised which included a tour round Bank Top Brewery, Quiz nights, a Dinner Dance and similar events, before announcing the fantastic total amount of money kindly raised.”

“Iain and I were absolutely stunned when Dave announced that ourselves and the Lady Captain’s Charity Meningitis Trust would both each receive the same amazing sum of £1,871.00. Those who know me would be surprised to hear that I was a little too shocked for words! (Webmaster – Never!) I did however manage to pull myself together and thank Dave and all the members of Dunscar Golf Club for their fantastic fundraising and this absolutely amazing and much appreciated very kind donation.”
