Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

25th September 2013

On Monday 23rd September 2013, we were involved in a search operation assisting GMP in the Hindsford Brook area of Tyldesley in regards to a missing 50 year old man. (Our Incident 95-2013, see website ‘News’ item. dated the same)

Today our Team Leader Garry Rhodes MBE received a kind letter of thanks regards this search operation, from GMP Police Sergeant Paula Daly, who led and co-ordinated the search enquiry on Monday;

“Dear Garry,
Greater Manchester Police were involved in efforts to locate a missing person aged 50 years, following items found in the middle of Hindsford Brook, in the Tyldesley area, giving Police cause for concern for his welfare.

Because of the expanse of land to search, it was necessary to ask for assistance from mountain rescue together with a specialised search dog.

Some fourteen volunteers attended at 9.30am on Monday 23rd September 2013, along with Steve Nelson a dog handler, and a search was co-ordinated by search manager Garry Rhodes.

I write to say a major thank you on behalf of the Wigan Division, and Greater Manchester Police for the time, effort and expertise from every person during the whole day.

My experience of dealing, and being involved with the Police aspect of the search, was made so much easier because of the interaction, and knowledge of all concerned.

I was left, feeling nothing other than extremely impressed by what I had witnessed.

For a voluntary organisation, the work that you do is outstanding, and I did not want your efforts to go un-noticed.

The missing male later turned up at a address safe and well.

I would like you to pass on this letter in recognition of the efforts throughout the whole day.

Many thanks,
Sergeant Paula Daly,
Leigh Police Station.”
