Shortly after noon today, a woman out dog walking with others on the hillside ‘Old Kates Dingle’ track above the Lower House Car Park at Rivington, aggravated a previous injury resulting in a very painful knee dislocation.
The responding NWAS (Lancashire) Emergency Ambulance crew from Blackburn Ambulance Station, upon arrival and locating the injured woman, realised that mountain rescue assistance would be required to stretcher evacuate the woman from the location.
At 12.57hrs the team was paged by NWAS (Lancashire) EOC Broughton, to respond and assist at this incident, to meet in the vicinity of Lower House, Rivington.
The Pager call was answered by our Deputy Team Leader Geoff Seddon, who at 13.01hrs initiated a full team pager call out.
Two Team Land Rover Mountain Rescue Ambulances attended, ‘BM1’ and ‘BM4’ alongside a small number of team members. (Our BM4 vehicle had just arrived at our Ladybridge Hall Base / HQ at the time of the call out, having returned from an exercise involving our SAR Boat and our Trainee Drowned Victim Search Dog, and with the three crew on board was able to make an immediate response)
Our Deputy Team Leader Geoff Seddon was on scene very quickly at 13.08hrs as he lives close to the Rivington area, being followed shortly by other team members and at 13.16hrs our BM4 Land Rover and its three man crew.
The woman was treated by the responding NWAS crew and team members, with the NWAS crew administering pain relieve drugs, and her injured leg being splinted in a specialist MRT Vacuum splint.
At 13.31hrs a short downhill stretcher carry commenced with the injured woman having been placed on our specialist Bell Mountain Rescue Stretcher.
By 13.40hrs the injured 44 years old woman (From the Golborne area) was safely in the waiting NWAS Emergency Ambulance at Lower House Car Park, which departed at 13.50hrs for onward transfer to Royal Bolton Hospital.
