At 09.10hrs this morning a GMP Missing Person Search Manager directly contacted our Team Leader Garry Rhodes MBE in regards to a missing 70 year old woman, in circumstances giving concern for her welfare.
The specific request was made for our specialist Mountain Rescue Trailing Dog Handler Steve Nelson and his Trailing Dog Boris, but they were unavailable.
The woman was missing from the Ramsbottom area, and the call was therefore passed to our colleagues at Rossendale and Pendle MRT as this lies within their primary operational area.
GMP had carried out searches the day previous and this morning using their own resources and NPAS (National Police Air Service – Helicopter) and decided to place the RPMRT with assistance from Bolton MRT on standby should the search areas necessitate MRT involvement.
At 09.46hrs co-ordinated by our Training Officer Dave Marsh the Bolton MRT was paged to standby status, with nine Team Call Out list members being immediately available should they be required.
RPMRT also carried out a similar standby within their team.
Very quickly news was received by GMP that the woman had been located some distance outside the Ramsbottom area, and both teams were stood down, the pager message indicating such to our members going out at 09.59hrs.
This request for our assistance is recorded here for the information and interest of our readers and does not feature in our Incident Listings.
