Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

18th August 2012

At 19.07hrs this evening we were paged to assist GMFRS with the report of a forty year old male stuck high up on a rock face in the vicinity of Winter Hill.

An emergency call had been received slightly earlier by GMFRS but the location details given were very vague, and our Team Leader Garry Rhodes MBE in answering the pager request suggested the location might be the working quarries off Georges Lane above Horwich.

A full team call out of the Bolton MRT, for members to assemble at Georges Lane, was made at 19.13hrs with team members and vehicles responding very quickly.

GMFRS also called on LFRS and NWAS for assistance, with the Fire Service managing to determine the location to be Anglezarke Quarry.

Shortly after this information was received and with the redirection of responding resources commencing, new information was received from the male involved that he was no longer stuck (As initially reported seventy feet off the ground)and had managed to get back down to the ground.

Responding services were then stood down at circa 19.23 / 24hrs.

The male involved apparently thanked all for responding, and apologised for the response that was generated.

The following resources were known to have been deployed to this incident, with all being stood down responding;

  • Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service; Two Pump Appliances and a Hydraulic Platform from Bolton Central Fire Station, one Pump Appliance and a specialist Off Road (Pinzgauer) Appliance from Bolton North Fire Station.
  • Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service; Two Pump Appliances from Chorley Fire Station, and the Specialist LFRS Rope Rescue Unit.
  • NWAS (Manchester); One Emergency Ambulance, two crew, from Bolton South Ambulance Station.
  • NWAS (Lancashire); One Advanced Paramedic solo responding in a Response Vehicle.
  • Bolton MRT; Four Land Rover Mountain Rescue Ambulance vehicles and twenty two team Call Out list members.
