Today the team provided standby rescue cover for the annual Darwen Gala Fell Race, held as part of the Darwen Gala.
This year the Fell Race was organised by Darwen Running Group and was titled ; Darwen Running Group Catherine Dowdall Darwen Gala Memorial Fell Race.
A new race route, longer than in the past was a feature of todays event, as was an associated Fun Run, over a mile long course.
The main race route, which started at 13.45hrs, took in a 4.7 mile course on Darwen Moor, including Jubilee Tower, Darwen Hill and Whitehall.
93x runners took part, in wet moorland conditions underfoot, and a cold wind present, with all finishing the course except for one competitor who retired at the Sunnyhurst checkpoint and returned in a Team Land Rover to the start and finish at Belgrave Park, Darwen.
Nine very keen young runners, with adult guides, took part in and completed the Fun Run event.
In total we had twenty one full Call Out list members and one Trainee team member in attendance, all positioned around the course in our four Land Rover Mountain Rescue Ambulances and our Minibus, plus two members at Jubilee Tower (Darwen Tower), all co-ordinated from our Incident Control Vehicle parked up adjacent to the Gala display field.
We are happy to continue our association with providing standby rescue cover for this annual event, which raised donations this year both for the team and for Sarcoma Cancer Care, www.sarcoma.org.uk
